IPOH: The Government should introduce ways to get the community to contribute to public healthcare.
Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah said contribution could be made through wider health insurance or the introduction of attractive health tax rebates for donors, companies and individuals.
He said the people’s expectation and need for healthcare had increased each year. Apart from this, cost of equipment, treatment, medication and health service had also risen.
Sultan Azlan said the Government had allocated a lot of money to provide healthcare and medical treatment in government hospitals.
“However the country’s financial resources has limits. The responsibility and burden on the government’s finances must be lightened,” he said at the renaming of Ipoh Hospital to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in honour of his consort Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Bainun yesterday.
Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, who was present, said the Government had renamed the hospital to honour Tuanku Bainun’s good deeds and devoted service to the people.
Also present at the event was Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
